Born in Hammanskraal, Thapelo Aphiri is a former NFD (National Soccer League) soccer player turned actor. Thapelo graduated from the University of Pretoria drama school where he obtained distinctions in acting practical in two successive years. Thapelo has enjoyed brief acting stints in productions such as the award winning television series (Home Affairs) followed by another appearance in Sokhulu and Partners. In between these brief appearances, Thapelo curved a niche for himself going on the road with educational shows such as Anthony and Cleopatra and working for PAST( Paleoscientific Trust). The times spend at PAST further highlighted Thapelo’s acting pedigree working under the artistic talents of Greg Melvill-Smith and the Physical theater guru, Graig. Under PAST, Thapelo starred in three productions; Thobela Story, Darwin and the Evolution Tree. The evolution tree enjoyed audiences in Arusha and Olduvai in Tanzania.
In recent times, Thapelo worked with Fort Films covering Men’s Health fashion show as presenter and art director and shooting a feature film called Vengeance followed by Shreds and Dreams and Mbalemnyanma, both for PAW PAW Films. When not performing, Thapelo works on his other talents by freelancing for companies such as WeSive, conceptualizing artistic events. His spare time is spend writing theatrical scripts, and conceptualizing television work he hopes to see both on our theater stages and television screens. Thapelo can’t sing and he dances like a dying tuna. His comical sense died whiles he was attempting his act in standup comedy.
