Born and Bred in the Free State, Sumarié Calitz has always had big dreams to conquer the entertainment industry. In 2017 she obtained her Drama and Theatre Arts Honours degree (Cum Laude) at the University of the Free State. Where she also received the Ben de Koker prize for the best Honours student.
It was during those four years that Sumarié was able to showcase and grow her passion for theatre and film. She had several lead roles including Julietin Romeo and Julietand Susan in Moeders and Dogters.She was also nominated at the Chris Vorster Film Festival for best supporting actress in the short FilmI love you and I like you.
In 2017 she had the artistic opportunity to workshop an Avant-Garde ProductionSovereign, that ran for three nights at the Grahamstown Fringe Festival.
Being the daughter of a dancing teacher, Sumarié has also always had a burning passion for dancing. In 2014 she had the rare opportunity to travel to Los Angeles to compete in the World Championships of Performing Arts, where she earned several gold and silver medals for her performances in Tap, Musical Theatre, Jazz and Contemporary.
Her love for dancing then soon grew into an interest for physical theatre as she became a feature dancer for the Anti-human trafficking campaign Empty Promises in 2015. In 2016 she danced for ERA, a physical theatre production that was showcased at the Free State Arts Festival as well as the Cape Town Fringe Festival.
Sumarié is determined to take on this industry by storm, while she strives to always continue growing as an artist and performer and to become as multifaceted as possible.
