The epitome of his names, a gift of light, is exactly what Ray Neo is. Be it in life, stage or tv. Having presence that makes people take note of him accompanied with professionalism and flexibility.
Ray was born in Soweto and raised in Pretoria. Coming from an artistic family he never questioned what his career path would be. He always knew that the arts was what he wanted which is why he started off with cultural dance at a young age in his community then joining ball room and Latin dancing classes because of how he admired his mother’s accolades and pictures in this dance genre. He then started entering pageants which helped him build his confidence and competitiveness.
Ray decided to take a journey in Dramatic arts which led him to studying at the University of Pretoria in an effort to groom his acting, voice and movement skills. This is where he was afforded the opportunity to work with names such as Bailey Snyman, Nicola Haskins, Josias Molele and Rian Tereblache. He decided to further his training so he can be an all rounded performer by attending the Cape Academy of Performing Arts. Coming from a dance background where he had performed contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and house he believed that becoming more classically trained would improve his dancing. While training Ray worked with international acclaimed choreographer Christopher L Huggins, Michelle Reid, Debbie Turner and Nathalie Vivjer.
Ray has performed with the Pretoria Youth Theatre, Arepp: theatre for life, been a bit strip for an international movie named Dark Tower and done voice overs for the Good man gallery exhibitions to name a few and is ready to take on more now that he has returned to Gauteng.
