MELISSA BAMBIE

I attended the National School of the Arts from grade 8 (2010) through to matric (2014), majoring in Dramatic Studies for 5 years. During my school career, I was involved in many school productions and self written productions, performed at the school theatre, school hall, Rosebank rooftop as well as the Johannesburg Theatre in Braamfontein. Productions varied in genre and style from comedy, realism, physical theatre, street theatre, Musical theatre, off Broadway, absurdity, protest theatre, pantomime, romanticism and tragedy. Productions I performed in are Animal Farm, I Stand before you naked, Sweet charity, Charlie and the glass elevator, Sophiatown, Woza Albert, Like dreaming backwards,The show is not over till the fat lady sings, POP theatre, Curse of the starving class, Waiting for Goddot, Caucasian Chalk Circle, A township story, Groundswell and many more. Throughout my studies, I learnt and polished up my performance skills, such as breathing control, central diaphragmatic breathing, body control, projection, articulation, setting up set, analysing scripts, script writing, breaking a character sketch down. I also studied the background of theatre and practitioners with their creation and contribution to theatre and its different genres such as Stanislavsky, Grotowski, Richard Wagner, Adolf Appia Mbongeni Ngema and Percy Mtwa. Within drama, we studied voice and movement, studying Lessac and his theories and many more dance pioneers for movement. We also did productions to teach and entertain the disabled and less advantaged through these drama’s.
