Charlie started his life-long love affair with the performing arts at an early age. Very active in local dramatic societies whilst growing up, he accordingly went on to study BA (Drama) at the University of Pretoria where he also attained a certificate in stage combat. Charlie likes getting involved, and has attended many stunt and weapons courses and workshops so as to do his own stunts. He has most recently (last year) acquired his Licentiate in Musical Theatre from Trinity College London.

In 2003 Charlie debuted professionally in the national touring production of Fame – The Musical. Some of his notable theatre successes include playing the psychotic Dr Frank-N-Furter in a national tour of The Rocky Horror Show; portraying the roles of Kenickie, Sonny and Vince Fontaine as a member of the West End international touring company of Grease; the diabolical Bombardier Kotze in the critically acclaimed Somewhere on the Border at the National Arts Festival, with runs at the Market- and Baxter Theatres; and Mafioso Gyp De Carlo in the national and international touring production of Jersey Boys. In 2011 he wrote, produced and performed the one man show Emphasis on Hopeless and proudly registered his production company CharlieGuy Productions.

Some of his other theatre credits include: Rotten Hood (written and directed by Paul Slabolepszy); Reza de Wet’s Mis; Antony & Cleopatra; Thoroughly Modern Millie; Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story; The King & I; and Play #3 by Harley Adams. Charlie turned his attention to the screen in 2011 and has since thoroughly enjoyed working in this medium. His film experience includes roles in the international feature Revolt; Alexia; Skorokoro; Angus Buchan’s Ordinary People; The Land of Milk and Money; Trouvoete; Mossie; and the Afrikaans thriller Koringberg. He has also been seen in several Mzansi Magic films.

Television credits include: Homeland 4 (Showtime) Strike Back 2 (HBO); Bloed Broers (kykNET); Stêrlopers 1 & 2 (kykNET); Getroud met Rugby 5 (kykNET); Gauteng Maboneng 2 (SABC2); Ses Top’la (SABC1); It’s for Life (SABC2); 7de Laan; Villa Rosa; Binnelanders and Binnelanders Sub Judice; Scandal; projects for the 46664 Foundation and many commercials.

Charlie is also heard frequently on the radio as he is a voice artist. He is currently playing the title role in Leon Van Nierop’s daily radio drama: Hartebreker. Oh, and not to mention that he’s also a singer and musician (saxophone and guitar).

Charlie is well known for his commitment and work ethic. This versatile actor continually nurtures and builds upon his craft as he consistently aspires toward producing excellent work. When this Johannesburg artist isn’t having a human experience in a role he’s giving life to, he can be found cruising single-track on his mountain bike.
